The 2027 Dodge Charger Super Bee makes 600 horsepower, wears one of Dodge’s most combustible old badges and does it all without the engine many muscle-car loyalists would instinctively expect. Under its hood sits a twin-turbocharged inline-six.
That contradiction is precisely what makes the new Super Bee interesting. Dodge is not preserving the old muscle-car formula; it is trying to preserve the sensation while changing the machinery underneath it. Anyone following the Charger SIXPACK transition has already seen where this argument was heading.
Six Cylinders Have Been Asked to Carry a Heavy Name
Super Bee is not a neutral badge.
Dodge has attached it to stripped-back, high-performance combustion cars for decades, including the 2023 “Last Call” model that helped close the Hemi era. Bringing it back on the newest Charger guarantees comparisons with cars powered by considerably larger engines.
Dodge has answered with output. The Launch Edition’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo SIXPACK produces an SAE-certified 600 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque, aided by larger 56-mm Garrett turbochargers capable of more than 30 psi of boost. Dodge claims 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds and an 11.8-second quarter-mile.
Those figures make arguing about cylinder count considerably more difficult.
The 2027 Dodge Charger Super Bee Is More Than a Boost Increase
An extra 50 horsepower over the current Charger Scat Pack would be easy enough to market. Dodge has gone further because sustained performance demands more than a bigger number.
The company’s Super Bee performance hardware includes a heavy-duty cooling package, adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes, wide 20-inch wheels and the ability to switch the all-wheel-drive system into rear-wheel drive.
Dodge also says the cooling system has substantially greater capacity than the 550-hp Scat Pack setup, while revised front-end airflow helps the car manage repeated high-load use. That is an important distinction. Heat management matters when turbocharging is being pushed this hard.

The revealing number is torque: it remains at 531 lb-ft while horsepower rises. This is not merely an engine tuned to produce a more violent low-speed shove. Dodge has worked on keeping the engine breathing harder farther up the rev range.
Dodge Is Keeping Combustion Alive Without Pretending Nothing Changed
There is a temptation to describe Super Bee as evidence that the old muscle car is back. It is not.
The classic ingredients have already shifted. There is no naturally aspirated V8, rear-wheel drive is selectable rather than mandatory, and turbochargers are doing work cubic inches once handled.
That does not necessarily make the car less interesting. It makes it a different kind of muscle car.
The debate connects naturally with why V8 engines still matter, because engine character cannot be reduced to acceleration numbers. A turbocharged six will not reproduce every vibration, sound or throttle response associated with a large V8.
But nostalgia is a poor substitute for engineering if the newer car is faster, more usable and capable of repeating its performance.

The Electric Charger Is Still Sitting Across the Garage
Dodge’s awkward genius is that it now sells two competing definitions of Charger performance.
The current Charger powertrain range includes the electric Daytona alongside SIXPACK combustion models. That forces the company to justify each one on something more interesting than horsepower alone.
The EV can exploit instantaneous torque and electrified acceleration. Super Bee answers with lighter mechanical expectations, familiar refueling behavior and the emotional appeal of an engine that still changes gears and burns fuel.
That creates real product tension instead of a simplistic EV-versus-gas argument. Some buyers will regard the six-cylinder Super Bee as a compromise because it lacks a Hemi. Others will see it as the combustion Charger that best fits the performance requirements of 2027.
Pricing will matter enormously. Dodge has not yet announced it, and an aggressive premium could turn a clever modern muscle car into an expensive nostalgia exercise. The company says further pricing and ordering details will follow later in 2026.
Super Bee Shows What Surviving Muscle Looks Like
Combustion performance is not disappearing quietly, but neither is it surviving unchanged.
The 2027 Dodge Charger Super Bee demonstrates the bargain Dodge is making. The V8 is gone, yet the company has responded with 600 horsepower, larger turbos, serious cooling, switchable rear-drive behavior and a chassis designed to use the extra output.
That may irritate purists more than simply building another retro V8 would have. It is also more revealing. Muscle cars have always been about extracting unreasonable performance from relatively accessible machinery. The new Super Bee keeps that idea alive, even if the engine doing the work now has two fewer cylinders and considerably more boost.
